A: Our textured print process is more advanced and process-intensive than traditional giclée printing. It involves the production of a precise digital representation of both the colour and the texture of your artwork, building the coloured texture with multiple very fine layers of UV cured ink. The color gamut is very similar to traditional CMYK giclée printing. This results in high-fidelity replicas that maintain the tactile quality of the original paintings.
A: We have developed our own advanced scanning technology to capture the color and geometry of each brushstroke. This data is then used to create an Arius Digital Master File (ADMF) – a precise digital representation. Our specialized printer then applies UV cured ink onto aluminum panels to reproduce the texture and depth of your original artwork.
A: We print exclusively on 3A Dibond Aluminum Composite Material (ACM) of 3.2mm thickness at this time. We have found 3A Dibond produces the best results in our own testing, and ensures a long lasting and durable print. We do not print texture on flexible media such as canvas and paper. We may consider other types of rigid materials in future ,so please ask if you have a specific alternate media you would like to consider for a project.
A: We have scanning systems installed in Vancouver, BC, and Newark, NJ, as well as London, UK. We can assist in the shipping logistics of transporting your artwork to these facilities for digitization if requested. This ensures that we capture the highest level of detail and accuracy in our digital representations.
A: If the original artwork is unavailable, we can create the texture by referencing your high-quality photos and use 3D software to generate the necessary files. More detail on this process can be found under the photographer section.
Please note that in this case, the resulting texture would not be a direct replication of the brushwork of the original as can be created through scanning digitization, but an interpretation.
A: We routinely print textures up to 6mm in height. For original works with heavy impasto or mixed media textures beyond 6mm, we proportionally scale the texture down though digital processing to the 6mm maximum. This maintains the detailed variation in the original artwork textures across the print.
For special projects and requests where additional texture can be of benefit, we can accommodate much higher elevations. These projects and their options can be discussed case by case in the pre-quote review process.
The maximum size we can print for a single piece print is 47.5” x 96”. This size can be shipped to any worldwide location. For larger installations, we can compose a print from two or more printed sections, and these can be arranged to fit together by traditional edge to edge board joints, or for a more integrated look, the joints can be custom printed and machined to fit the artwork colour and texture geometry for almost seamless join lines. The prints are then produced with features to enable onsite assembly and are stacked in a single crate for shipping. These projects are more complex than single prints and would be reviewed and discussed in detail prior to quoting.
A: Textured printing is a more costly process than traditional giclee printing, with much more variation in the print possibilities cost depends on the size, texture complexity, and quantity of prints. Therefore, we do require at least a good quality photo of the artwork, along with dimensions and an approximate texture height, before we can quote.
A: Yes, our advanced scanning and printing technology can capture and replicate various painting techniques, including impasto and palette knife work, ensuring that the prints maintain the unique texture and depth of your original artwork. As our textured print process is an additive liquid process, voids under overhanging paint strokes cannot be created underneath the colour top surface, such as overhanging structure. These surface features are replicated precisely while the underlaying void below them is filled in to create the visible surface.
A: As part of our print process, be it traditional artwork reproductions, or digital and photographic creations, we can offer on-line reviewing of the digital files, as well as the shipment of printed proofs to you for review in person prior to printing of the final print. Typically the proofing consists of a full colour flat proof on paper, along with a small section of the final print in full 2.5D coloured texture. In the case of larger print runs or edition series, we can also provide a full size first article or artist’s proof for review prior to completion of the full print run.
A: For traditional artwork, digitization can be completed in 2-3 days after the artwork is delivered to one of our scanning locations. Once we have files for print processing, be it from the digitization process or digital files direct from a photographer or digital media artist, our standard turnaround for order to ship is 10 business days. For urgent deadlines, there are options to shorten the lead time, and for complex projects and large print run qualities, the lead times will extend past 10 days. We will provide an estimated timeline when you request a quote.
A: As with the rest of the fine art print industry, we strive to produce the most accurate print colour, and additionally in our case, texture, to match the original art piece. Our print texture layer resolution is a very fine .042mm (0.001”), producing stepless organic shapes. Not all colours can be replicated at their full original gamut, and those extreme colours are adjusted in proportion to the test of the art print colour field to produce a uniformly pleasing representation. As per the expectations section above, we can provide a sample proof of your file in colour for assessment and approval prior to any print commitment.
